Al-Shabaab attacks AU military outpost near Somali capital


AFGOYE [SMN] – Last night at midnight, there was a fierce battle between the Ugandan forces in the ATMIS operation and members of Al-Shabaab in a district near Mogadishu.


The battle came after members of Al-Shabaab attacked the base of the ATMIS forces in the Afgoye district bridge, and the attack resulted in various losses.

Eyewitnesses said that they heard heavy weapons being fired by the ATMIS forces during the fighting, but they did not report any casualties.

The situation in Afgoye district is calm now after the AU forces and Al-Shabaab fought in Mukeyga and Haanta Dheere neighborhoods.

Afgoye lies about 30 kilometers southwest of the capital.
