ADAN YABAAL (SMN) – Somali Govt troops along with local clan militia conducted a joint operation in the vicinity of Al-Kowthar near the strategic town of Adan Yabaal on Sunday.
A senior army officer named Abshir Wadani has confirmed to Shabelle radio by phone that they targeted a camp where militants have been gathering to plan an attack.
He added that at least 40 Al-Shabaab members were killed in the gunfight and dozens of others sustained wounds who later escaped from the battle zone.
The SNA officer stated that the operation was part of the ongoing offensive that aimed to push Al-Shabaab out of the remaining areas in the Middle Shabelle region.
Last week, Somali PM Hamza Abdi Barre visited Adan Yabaal days after its capture by the SNA and locals. He met with military commanders and troops during his frontline tour.
