Five killed in ongoing Al-Shabaab raid on Villa Rose hotel

MOGADISHU [SMN] – At least 5 people have been killed in an attack on a hotel near the presidential palace in the Somali capital Mogadishu that began last night.
The hotel – Villa Rossa is still under siege by Al-Shabaab attackers, who are engaging in heavy gunfire with the security forces.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack and said its fighters are still fighting inside the hotel. The number of the gunmen remains unclear.
For the past several months, the government has been taking military action against the terrorist group, which controls large parts of central Somalia and the south of the country.
The Somali military, with the support of armed clans and civilians, has recently been able to make major territorial gains against al-Shabaab
