Guelleh sworn in as Djibouti president

Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh has been sworn in as president for the fifth time after winning the presidential election in April 2021.

Guelleh’s inauguration was attended by dignitaries including Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Rwanda PM Edouard Ngirente, Guinean President Alpha Conde, South Sudanese Vice President, and senior members from Uganda, Kenya, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and France were also in attendance,

Ismail Omar Guelleh received 98.41% of the Djiboutian vote in the April election, defeating businessman Zakaria Ismail Farah won 1.59% of the vote.

Guelleh, 73, has ruled Djibouti since 1999.
