MOGADISHU [SMN] – Gunmen killed a Somali elder Mohamed Noor Diriye in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Wednesday, days after an attack on the Hayat hotel left 21 people dead.
The former Minister of Internal Affairs, MP Abdirahman Odawaa has confirmed the murder of the elder, who hailed from his clan.
“I send my deepest condolences to all the families and relatives of Diriye Ali for the death of our peaceful brother Mohamed Nur Diriye who was killed this morning,” Odowa added.
The Somali government troops went to the scene of the murder and took the body to the CID headquarters at KM4 junction for investigation.
In recent months, there have been several planned killings of soldiers, civilians, and government officials in the city, some were carried out by Al-Shabaab.
