MOGADISHU [SMN] – The Speaker of the Parliament of Somalia Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nor (Madobe) today received at his office the Italian Ambassador Alberto Vecchi.

The meeting between the speaker and the Italian ambassador discussed the historical relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador conveyed a message from the Parliament of his country regarding the cooperation between the two parliaments.

Madobe thanked the Italian Government for supporting Somalia and how they are participating in the fight against terrorism and debt relief, and noted that the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Italian Parliament will have good relations soon.

Italy is one of the western countries that support the government of Somalia in terms of security, debt relief and the rebuilding of the army.

Last month, Somali president visited Italy after he received in Mogadishu an Italian delegation led by the undersecretary of Defense, Matteo Perego di Cremnago, with whom he discussed “the further strengthening of the historic bilateral ties between Somalia and Italy through cooperation on of security, development and other matters of mutual interest”.
