EL-WAK [SMN] – Residents in the Gedo region in southern Somalia say suspected Kenyan military warplanes have indiscriminately bombed rural areas near El Wak town last night.

The airstrike took place in Warbeele, Buralaha Samaroole, and Golgola Ali, hitting nomads keeping livestock in the targeted villages, according to the residents.

Local sources told Shabelle Media Network that the KDF bombardment caused casualties to pastoralists in the areas of the operation, but the number still remains unclear.

Jubbaland state has not yet commented on the shelling and the casualties as well.

Kenya’s military regularly carries out air raids in the Lower Juba and Gedo regions of southern Somalia, where its troops are operating under AMISOM since 2012.
