AFGOYE [SMN] – An explosion was reported on the outskirts of Sabiid area in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia on Sunday morning amid an anti-al-Shabab operation.
The blast, which resulted from a remote-controlled landmine targeted a Fekon motorcycle with a soldier and a civilian.
A local source told Shabelle Media Network by phone that the civilian was killed in the IED blast, while the soldier was injured and rushed to the hospital.
In the aftermath of the explosion, Somali government forces arrived at the scene and started searches for suspects, according to the local residents.
There was no claim of responsibility for the bombing in the Lower Shabelle region.
