Police have arrested suspects and recovered AK47 guns in Garissa.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, National Police Service said a Multi-agency security team successfully conducted an intelligence-led operation.

The suspects whose number was not disclosed were arrested and placed in custody.

“They are assisting police with further investigations,” police said.
Police thanked the public for their continued support and urged them to continue providing information to police for the safety and security of everyone in Kenya.

The region has in the last few months experienced attacks by suspected al Shabaab militants and their sympathizers that have left at least 16 people dead in the counties of Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa.

The most recent attack occurred on Monday morning in Mandera where Omar Jillow chief was attacked by suspected al Shabaab as he was coming back from Arabia.

He was reportedly accosted by the militants who butchered him before fleeing back to Somalia on foot.
