MOGADISHU [SMN] – The president of the Federal government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday chaired for the first time the weekly cabinet meeting in Mogadishu.
According to a statement released by Villa Somalia, Mohamud lauded the cabinet led by PM Hamza Abdi Barre for its notable work and commendable service to the Somali people.
The work plan of the government for this new year has been the main agenda of the meeting, which also focused on the current military operations against Al-Shabaab.
The president said 2023 will be a re-liberation of Somalia and a rebuilding of the national institutions. He vowed to win the ongoing war on Al-Shabaab in the coming months.
Continuing, Hassan Sheikh instructed the government to swiftly deliver basic services and humanitarian aid to the people in the newly liberated areas in the south and central regions.
Since assuming power last year, the president has been making tireless efforts to bring back troops trained in Eritrea and visiting the frontlines to boost the morale of the SNA soldiers.
Somalia is facing a devastating drought that affected at least 8 million people, half of the country’s population due to failed rainy season for the 4th consecutive year.
