Public outcry as NISA soldier kills a young TUK-TUK driver in Mogadishu


MOGADISHU [SMN] – A Tuk-Tuk driver named Mohamed Haile was killed in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia on Saturday morning, witnesses said.


The late Mohamed Haile died of a bullet said to have been fired by a soldier of the Somali Intelligence Agency [NISA].

The killing took place at Howlwadaag intersection, and it is said that the deceased was transporting his mother and sister on his motorcycle at the time of the shooting.

There are reports of two more deaths after security forces fired live bullets at protesters in the junction, who were calling for justice.

A Minibus driver was wounded by a stray bullet during the shooting that sparked a public rally. The transport movement came to standstill for moments during the unrest.

Incidents have been increasing in recent times in the country’s capital, Mogadishu, while the government has said that it will take steps to correct the soldiers’ behavior.
