GAROWE [SMN] – The vice president of Puntland Ahmed Karash held a meeting on Sunday with Audrey Crawford, the leader of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in Somalia.

”We discussed how the DRC will play a vital role in the emergency relief effort for those impacted by the genocide that the Somaliland is carrying out on the city,” Karash added.

Somaliland offensive has affected the lives and livelihoods of the people of Lascaanood and the overall region of Sool. It’s very important to me to be involved in these plans.

In February, Somaliland accused neighboring Puntland of waging war against its forces in Sool region by providing military support to local clan fighters battling for LasAnod control.

Puntland denied the accusation and said if asked, it will give a military support to SSC.

President Muse Bihi also announced a unilateral ceasefire on 10th February. However, leaders of Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn (SSC) regions rejected the call demanding a pull out of Somaliland troops as a precondition for dialogue.

As of March 13, at least 210 people were reported killed, and hundreds were injured with thousands fled from their houses, some crossed into Ethiopia border to escape the war.

The U.N. Security Council during a meeting Somalia last month called for a de-escalation of violence in Las Anod, adding to similar calls from the federal government in Mogadishu.

However, the calls have gone unheeded as both sides continued exchanging heavy fire.
