Sheikh Sharif registers his candidacy ahead of May 15 election

MOGADISHU [SMN] – The joint parliamentary team assigned to organize the Presidential Election has today started the registration of candidates for the 10th Somali president.

 

Sheikh Sharif, a former president of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) who served from 2009-to 2012, became the first candidate to receive his certificate.

Other candidates are also expected to arrive at the Upper House HQs, where the registration is ongoing. The process will take two days, the 8th and 10th of May.

The election of the new president will take place on May 15th, according to a timetable issued by the electoral commission of both houses of the Somali Parliament last week.
