Somali president attends a reception hosted by Biden

WASHINGTON – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with his American counterpart Joe Biden in the US days after addressing the UNGA77.

Both leaders have exchanged views on the relations between Somalia and the United States, mainly in the cooperation of the fighting against Al-Shabaab.

Mohamud thanked Joe Biden for the role that the US military is taking in “Fighting Al-Shabaab” and said that his government is focusing on the elimination of the group.

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud participated in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly and then he met the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden.

“I had the pleasure of attending the reception hosted by Biden during the 77th Session of the UNGA Assembly. The USA is a strategic ally & friend for Somalia’s development & progress and we look forward to further enhancing our bilateral ties to advance regional peace,” said Mohamud.

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, ordered in May 2022 to return to Somalia the American forces that left in January 2021 to participate in operations against Al-Shabaab.
