MOGADISHU [SMN] – Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, PM Hamza, and Lower House speaker, as well as top other officials, attend the funeral service of slain Mogadishu police boss Brigadier General Farhan Qarole.

Hamza was killed in a landmine that struck him during an operation in the vicinity of Basra village in the Middle Shabelle region on Friday morning.

The attack was swiftly claimed by al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Shabab militants.

The state house [Villa Somalia], particularly the area where the funeral service is held, was tightened by security forces.

Somali president called on the public to join the war with Al-Shabaab to help liberate the country from Al-Shabaab, warning the traders against paying tax to the group.

The group that claimed responsibility for Qarole’s death threatened the country’s security and warned the locals not to take part in the ongoing war against the militants.
