WASHINGTON [SMN] – The president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has held a meeting with the secretaries of the state department and defense in Washington DC.

Mohamud discussed with Secretary Antony Blinken, and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on the current Somalia situation, mainly the security, the war on Al-Shabaab, and the drought.

The meeting was attended by the president of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh, who is part of the leaders invited to the U.S.-Africa summit that kicked off in Washington on Tuesday.

The US is a key ally of Somalia and has been providing support to the UN-backed government in Mogadishu in the fight against Al-Shabaab and the rebuilding of the army.
