BAIDOA [SMN] – The president of Southwest State of Somalia Abdiaziz Lafta-Garen on Wednesday received a UN delegation in Baidoa city, his office said.
The regional leader held a meeting with Ghada Eltahir, who is the deputy UNOCHA director in Somalia. She and traveled to Southwest State to assess the impact of the drought.
The talks focused on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the regional state and the assistance to the millions of people affected by the drought in the country.
Somalia is hit by the worst drought in 40 years which also affected Kenya and Ethiopia, forcing 20 million people on the brink of famine.
The war in Ukraine put Africa at hunger after the importation of wheat was halted by the Russian invasion.
