Turkish delegation pays a visit to Southwest state

BAIDOA [SMN] – The President of the Southwest State of Somalia Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftgareen met with a delegation from Turkey on Sunday, his office said.

The delegation’s visit to Baidoa is to raise awareness, train religious leaders and support the needy, according to the statement from the presidency.

The President has thanked the Turkish religious leaders for their visit and for their efforts in assisting the deported community in Las Anod, Sool region.

In addition, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen has received a copy of the Holy Quran from Turkish scholars during the meeting.

Turkey forged close ties with Somalia in 2011 after Erdogan paid a visit to Mogadishu at a time the country was facing famine that left many people dead.
