Two Lower House MPs elected in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU [SMN] – The outgoing deputy PM Mahdi Guled and Bihi Iman became the first MPs to be elected to the Lower house of Somali parliament on Monday in Mogadishu.

Guled garnered 97 majority votes while the second candidate won 91 votes in the first round of the voting exercise at General Kahiye police academy.

Bihi, who was previously in the seat, ran against Abdirahman Hassan Ismail, who he defeated.

He is the second member of parliament to be elected and was preceded by the country’s first deputy prime minister, Mahdi Mohamed Guled.
