SAN ANTONIO – A man accused of fatally shooting a taxicab driver in Windcrest two years ago was arrested Friday on the West Side of San Antonio, and an arrest affidavit implicates at least one other suspect in the crime.
Baldemar Hinojoza Jr., 44, was taken into custody Friday and charged with capital murder in the death of Aadam Ugaas Xirsi. Windcrest police said Hinojoza had been on the run since January 2019.
Authorities were initially called to the parking lot of a Texas Thrift Store off of Interstate 35, near Loop 410, on Jan. 17, 2019, for a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found Xirsi in the driver’s seat of his yellow cab minivan, with the door open. According to an affidavit, police said Xirsi had a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Upon further investigation, police said Xirsi’s driver’s door window was partially shattered and looked as if a bullet had been shot through the glass. Officers said found a 9mm shell casing and a gray beanie-style stocking cap near the vehicle.
The affidavit states that the beanie had DNA from a man who told police he knew who killed Xirsi and pointed the finger at Hinojoza and another man. He also told police that the second person involved in Xirsi’s killing was also responsible for another shooting.
According to an affidavit, ballistic comparisons showed the weapon was used in both crimes. SAPD is still investigating the second shooting and further details are limited.
Police said Hinojoza and the second suspect went to the parking lot that morning in a white Kia Sol with the intent to rob Xirsi at gunpoint.
Friends of Xirsi previously told KSAT that he came to the U.S. from Somalia, and he left behind three children and a wife at the time of his death.
Hinojoza is being held in the Bexar County Jail, and his bond is set at $500,000, according to court records.
