GAROWE, Somalia [SMN] – Puntland government has announced that it will sit down with the rival opposition sides to seek an end to the standoff situation in Garowe.
During today’s meeting, Puntland Cabinet Ministers on Thursday said that the government has been making efforts in the last few days to end the current crisis peacefully.
“Puntland government is ready for peace talks on the current issues, and will continue the democratization process,” said a statement from the cabinet.
The government expressed sorry over the recent war in Garowe and condoled to the families who lost their loved ones in the clashes between opposition and state forces.
At least 26 people died in the deadly fighting and 16 of those were soldiers, while 30 others were injured, according to medical officials at Garowe city hospitals.
The Tuesday’s battle came after the regional parliament had voted to consider amendments to the constitution, and that further debates and votes would take place.
