Southwest State leader makes cabinet reshuffle amid pressure

BAIDOA, Somalia – The President of the Southwest Abdiaziz Lafta Gareen has reshuffled his cabinet on Saturday, according to a decree issued by the presidency.

 

The president appointed 15 ministers, deputy ministers, and ministers of state. It is the biggest reshuffle done by President Lafta Gareen since his election in late 2018.

The move comes as his administration is under pressure from the Al-Shabaab, which besieged Baidoa city from the outside, leading to unprecedented inflation.

The new cabinet line-up:

1: Ibrahim Ali Adan Najah: The Minister of Justice and Judiciary.

2: Hassan Abdiqadir Mohamed: Minister of Security.

3: Nasro Aways Sheikh Hussein: Minister of Women and Human Rights.

4: Mustaf Ahmed Idow: Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education.

5: Isaaq Ali Subag: Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation.

6: Ali Sheikh Abdullahi (Ali Afgooye): Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport.

7: Mohamed Isaaq Ibrahim: Minister of Petroleum.

8: Saeed Ali Ahmed Omar: Minister of the Constitution.

9: Abdifitah Mohamed Macalin: Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources.

10: Eng. Dini Abdinur Mohamed: Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

11: Nur Sidow Baabaa: Minister of religion and endowments.

12: Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Nur: Minister of State for the Presidency.

13: Mohamed Hussein Addawe: Deputy Minister of Transport.

14: Mohamed Qays Hassan: Deputy Minister of Youth.

15: Omar Daoud Khalifa: Deputy Minister of Petroleum.
