DHUSAMAREB – The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is in Dhusamareb, Galmudug state on a mission to focus on the acceleration of operations against Al-Shabaab.

Mohamud arrived in Dhusamareb City on Saturday under tight security and he is set to visit troops on the frontlines to boost the morale of the SNA fighting Al-Shabaab.

He discussed with President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qor-Qor the preparations for the second phase of the anti-Al-Shabaab operations in the Galmudug state of Somalia.

The Somali government troops and allied clan militias have forced the rebels from swathes of territory, in the latest offensive backed by US airstrikes.

In January 2023, the combined forces seized Harardhere and Galcad after the militants fled without a fight. This was the biggest victory by the FGS since launching the assault.

Harardhere is a key coastal town and a former pirate hub. It was the biggest and most strategic town in Galmudug that was still in the hands of al-Shabab.

The capture of Galcad, about 375 kilometers north of Mogadishu, and Harardhere indicates the government-led offensive against al-Shabab in central Somalia is progressing.

The president will meet with the various sections of the community and the leading army officers to listen to the reports about the security and the war on Al-Shabaab in the state.

The Federal forces along with clan militias seized control of main Districts and areas in Galmudug state during the first phase of the operations against Al-Shabaab since 2022.
