MOGADISHU, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh opened a national consultation meeting in Dhusamareb, which coincides with the military’s success in the war against Al-Shabaab.

The conference is attended by the leaders of Jubaland, Southwest, HirShabelle, and Galmudug. Also, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and the mayor of Mogadishu are present.

The presidency said that the talks will focus on security, the completion of military operations, the stabilization of the areas removed from Al-Shabaab, and the delivery of government services to the people.

The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, is absent from the meeting, and this is the second time that he has not come to the consultation meetings due to a political dispute with Villa Somalia.

“This significant gathering, presided over by President Hassan Sheikh took place at a pivotal juncture in the fight against Kharijites, with an emphasis on bolstering the strides achieved in the current offensive and stabilizing the recently liberated areas,” said PM.

President Hassan Sheikh has been in Dhusamareb for weeks to fight Al-Shabaab, and he is planning to start the second phase of the operation soon, in which the army from the frontline countries will participate.

The government managed to drive out Al-Shabaab from swathes of territory and continue to reach the heartland of the militant group, including Elbur, which fell to SNA on Friday.
