DHUSAMAREB, Somalia – In his address to the nation, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, said that it is time to hold accountable those who abused the power of the army.

“It is time to hold accountable those who abused the power of the army, committed betrayal, and set people on fire. The time for accountability to begin,” said the president.

The president said that every officer and soldier in the army who made a mistake will be held accountable, describing them to be the same enemy as Al-Shabaab.

During his 10-minute recorded video, President Hassan Sheikh denied that the al-Shabaab attack in Cowswayne killed 180 soldiers of the Somali army as baseless and propaganda.

The President said that the most casualties were inflicted on the Al-Shabaab group. He said they buried their fighters killed in the battle in mass graves.

In a message, he delivered tonight, mainly focused on the government’s fight against Al-Shabaab. It coincided with the time when the SNA left some of the newly recaptured areas.

The strategic village of Cawsweyne was captured by Somali government forces early this month and was followed by Elbur town, the historic Al-Shabaab stronghold last Friday.
