MOGADISHU, Somalia – The federal government of Somalia has announced today that it will work closely with the Transitional Administration of SSC-Khatumo.
The interior minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi speaking along with the regional leader Abdulkadir Firdhiye said the government recognized SSC-Khatumo after its elders decided their future.
The Minister added that the Federal government of Somalia is committed to safeguarding the unity of the country as stipulated in the constitution, adding that the FGS responds to the humanitarian situation in the SSC-Khatumo areas.
Fiqi called on the SSC-Khatumo and Somaliland to swap the prisoners of war [PoWs] they hold, and he said the federal government is ready to make it easier for that to happen.
He said that there is a need for both sides to establish a ceasefire and become peaceful neighbors, as the country tries to recover from three decades of bloody conflict, started in 1991.
The FGS move realizes the hope that the Blue Revolution will continue in other northern regions with the now victorious SSC-Khatumo leading the struggle that is welcomed at home.
Today, Somalia’s federal government consists of five states, including Puntland. Until 2007, when Somaliland seized Las Anod, the city was under Puntland administration. But, both sides will no longer be in dispute as SSC-Khatumo resurfaced.
Sool, Sanaag and Cayn known as SSC are now part of the SSC-Khaatumo state, which has also declared itself autonomous. The Dhulbahante also claim Las Anod as their capital.
