HARGEISA, Somalia – The northern breakaway region of Somaliland on Wednesday morning executed 5 men found guilty of killing.
The execution took place in the Madheera area, outside Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland.
President Muse Bihi signed the execution of the men whose names have not yet been released. It was carried out without announcement.
The government of Somaliland faced criticism from the international community which condemned the extrajudicial killings.
Somaliland has not yet spoken about the killing that was carried out this morning, which happened early this morning, and not much information has been received.
The region is currently in its worst crisis, including the war in the Sool region and political conflict resulting from the term extension of Muse Bihi’s term by two more years.
Somaliland has been on a charm offensive for three decades trying to persuade the rest of the world to accept its statehood. The international community deals it as a region within Somalia.
