KISMAYO (SMN) – The US-trained Danab special forces ransacked main bases belonging to Al-Shabaab on the outskirts of Kismayo, a port city in southern Somalia on Tuesday.
The troops from SNA’s most feared elite unit clashed with the militants during their operation in Yaq-Halul, Qod-Qod, Beer-Haani, Qudus, and other small rural villages.
Speaking to the media, major Arab Dheeg Ahmed, a senior Danab official said Al-Shabaab suffered heavy losses, including deaths of fighters, and was driven out of its key bases.
Ahmed added that the troops will leave no stone unturned to dislodge Al-Shabaab from the areas still remaining under its control, which are located outside Jubaland state’s seat.
Al-Shabaab lost dozens of towns and villages to SNA and allied clan fighters in central Somalia since the Somali government launched an all-out offensive in August last year.
