MOGADISHU, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh has officially opened the 4th session of the Federal Parliament in Mogadishu on Saturday in Mogadishu under tight security.
In his opening speech, the president highlighted the progress made by his administration in joining the East African Community [EAC] as the 8th member on Friday, security, debt relief programs, and the war on Al-Shabaab.
In addition, the president has also given an update to lawmakers on the preparation of the second phase of the military operation against Al-Shabaab, in which the frontline states – Kenya, Ethiopia, and Djibouti will take part.
Hassan Sheikh has praised the work done by the Parliament in the third session, which approved many laws vital for the state-building efforts spearheaded by his government.
In his speech, Mohamud also commended the National Army for their efforts in fighting against Al-Shabaab and vowed to eliminate the group, which poses a threat to security.
The opening of the third session of the Federal Parliament was held in Villa Hargeisa within the presidential palace as the house complex has been under construction for years by Turkey.
