MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) appointed Mohamed Abdi Waare from Somalia as a Deputy Executive Secretary.
IGAD announced the historic appointment during the 41st session of the Heads of State and Government held in Djibouti on Saturday, December 9th.
Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the naming of Waare, who served in the past as the president of the HirShabelle regional state [2017-2020].
The member states commended the progress that Somalia made over the past months in peace, security, and development as well as joining the East African community.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh who attended the IGAD meeting thanked the countries for their unwavering support in critical time and the approval of the appointment of Waare.
