Al-Shabaab commander wanted for attacks killed in US airstrike – army chief

MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia has released more details about the airstrike on the 17th of December in the Jilib district of the middle Jubba region.

 

The Somali army chief General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhuddin, confirmed that the American Jilib airstrike killed Khalif Daud, who was known within Al-Shabaab as Moalim Ayman.

Ayman was responsible for various attacks in Kenya that targeted the American base in Manda-Bay which also houses the Kenyan military troops, according to the SNA chief.

The US Africa command said the airstrike was conducted in coordination with the Somali government and targeted an Al-Shabaab leader who is wanted for attacks in Kenya.

The US placed a reward of 5 million dollars on his head, He was finally killed in a drone attack on the 17th of this month. However, Al-Shabaab is yet to confirm Ayman’s death.

This is another step to defeat the terrorist group that undermines Somalia’s peace and development, according to a statement released by the US Africa command [AFRICOM].

Al-Shabaab is the largest and most kinetically active al-Qaeda network in the world and has proved both its will and capability to attack U.S. forces and threaten U.S. security interests.
