MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited the Defense Headquarters in Mogadishu on Wednesday morning under tight security measures.
The head of state held a meeting with senior military officials led by the Chief of the Defense Forces Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Sheikh Muhidin along with the navy commander.
The president was briefed on security developments in the country and the ongoing military operations against al-Shabab, according to a statement released by the defense ministry.
Today’s meeting comes as the federal government plans to re-accelerate operations against the Al-Shabaab group that is being eradicated from the country.
The second phase of the war will begin shortly, the government wants to free the country as a whole from the Al-Shabaab group as the arms embargo on Somalia has been lifted after more than 30 years.
