Mogadishu, Somalia — The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, welcomed the Head of the IGAD Mission to Somalia Mohamud Abdi Ahmed, to his office at the Ministry in the capital, Mogadishu, for a courtesy visit.
During the meeting, Mr. Mohamud extended a congratulatory message from the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, to Minister Fiqi on his recent appointment. Dr. Gebeyehu expressed his wishes for a successful term and the strengthening of relations between Somalia and IGAD.
The officials engaged in discussions on a variety of topics, including the regional protocol on transhumance and the efforts being made to expedite the ratification of the IGAD Treaty.
The regional protocol on transhumance aims to facilitate the seasonal movement of livestock and pastoralists across borders in search of grazing land and water, while the IGAD Treaty outlines the principles and objectives of the organization, which focuses on promoting regional cooperation and integration.
Both parties expressed their commitment to enhancing collaboration and cooperation between Somalia and IGAD, to promote peace, stability, and development in the region.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides looking forward to further discussions and joint initiatives in the future.
