Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi meets with UN Secretary-General to discuss key issues

NEW YORK  – In a high-level meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and UN Secretary-General António Guterres engaged in discussions about critical matters affecting Somalia and the international community.

 

The meeting, which took place on June 7, 2024, came at a crucial time for Somalia, as the country was recently elected to the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term. This marks a significant milestone for Somalia, as it returns to the Security Council after a long absence.

During the meeting, Minister Fiqi and Secretary-General Guterres discussed a range of issues, including the ongoing security situation in Somalia, the humanitarian crisis affecting millions of Somalis, and the country’s efforts to rebuild and stabilize after decades of conflict and instability.

The two leaders also discussed the importance of international cooperation and the role of the United Nations in supporting Somalia’s development and transition to a peaceful and prosperous future.
