SCAA Debunks Reports of Flight Disruptions to Baidoa Amid Political Tensions

MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has issued a statement refuting claims that flights from Mogadishu to Baidoa have been barred or disrupted. The flight cancellations came amid escalating political tensions, the SCAA clarified that no new restrictions or changes have been imposed on these flight routes.

Reports indicated flight delays and cancellations, attributing them to a standoff between the federal government and the South West State administration. These reports emerged against the backdrop of heightened security measures, including the deployment of federal troops to the coastal town of Barawe, sparking speculation about a no-flight zone over Baidoa.

However, the SCAA has confirmed that daily flights to Baidoa continue as scheduled, emphasizing that the authority has not issued any directives to halt or restrict these operations.

The confusion appears to stem from misunderstandings or misinterpretations of security-related actions taken by the federal government, which some have wrongly associated with aviation policy changes.

This clarification from the SCAA highlights the need for accurate information dissemination, particularly in regions like Somalia where political and security situations can rapidly evolve, affecting public perception and operational logistics.

The authority’s statement aims to reassure travelers and stakeholders that civilian air travel between Mogadishu and Baidoa remains unaffected by recent political developments.
