CAIRO, Egypt — Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi participated in the Arab League State Council inauguration, where he highlighted the organization’s firm stance against what Somalia perceives as Ethiopia’s infringement on its sovereignty.

During the event, Fiqi reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to its strong and enduring relationships with Arab states.

The discussions at the council focused on regional stability and respect for territorial integrity, with particular attention to the recent tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia over a maritime access deal signed with the breakaway region of Somaliland. The Arab League has previously condemned this agreement, viewing it as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty.

Fiqi’s presence at the inauguration underscores Somalia’s diplomatic efforts to garner support from the Arab world, emphasizing unity and cooperation in the face of external challenges. The meeting also served as a platform for Somalia to voice its concerns on the international stage, seeking solidarity and diplomatic backing from its Arab counterparts.

This diplomatic engagement reflects Somalia’s strategy to leverage its ties with Arab nations to address regional disputes, reinforcing its position that any resolution regarding its territorial integrity must be achieved through internal dialogue and respect for international law.
