Somalia, Qatar Pledge Enhanced Security Cooperation in Mogadishu Meeting

MOGADISHU, Somalia — In a bid to bolster security ties, Somalia’s Police Force Chief, General Asad Osman, met with Dr. Abdullahi Binu Salem Al Nuaimi, the Qatari Ambassador to Somalia, on Wednesday in Mogadishu.

 

The discussions emphasized strengthening cooperation in security matters between Somalia and Qatar.

According to a statement released after the meeting, both officials focused on intensifying joint efforts to counter terrorism, a persistent threat in the Horn of Africa nation. General Osman expressed gratitude for Qatar’s ongoing support, which includes training and equipping the Somali Police Force.

The meeting also highlighted Qatar’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of Somalia’s military forces, aimed at improving national security. The talks are part of a broader initiative to foster collaboration, sharing intelligence, and resources to address regional security challenges effectively.

Ambassador Al Nuaimi reiterated Qatar’s dedication to supporting Somalia’s security sector, noting that such partnerships are crucial for regional stability.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to further institutionalize their security cooperation, setting the stage for potential future joint operations and increased technical assistance from Qatar to Somalia’s law enforcement and military institutions.
