MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, has set off for Eritrea in a diplomatic mission aimed at reinforcing ties between the two Horn of Africa nations. The visit, beginning Thursday, is seen as a pivotal step towards enhancing economic, security, and cultural exchanges.
In Asmara, President Mohamud will hold discussions with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki on a wide array of issues. The focus will be on bolstering cooperation to counter regional threats, notably from groups like Al-Shabaab, which pose significant security risks across the region.
The talks are expected to delve into joint strategies for combating these threats, possibly including coordinated military actions or intelligence sharing.
