Somalia’s PM Urges Unity on Flag Day, Calls for Fight Against Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre marked the country’s Flag Day on October 12 by calling for national unity and resilience against Al-Shabaab.

 

In his statement, Prime Minister Barre emphasized the importance of the day which commemorates the raising of Somalia’s flag in 1954, an emblem of the country’s independence and unity.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all Somalis around the world on this Flag Day. We stand united in the face of threats to our national symbols and our peace,” Barre stated, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by extremist elements within Somalia.

He specifically named Al-Shabaab as enemies obstructing peace and development in Somalia, rallying the populace to resist these forces that threaten the very fabric of Somali society.

The Prime Minister’s message comes at a time when Somalia continues to grapple with security issues, with Flag Day serving as a poignant reminder of the nation’s identity and its aspirations for a peaceful future.
