Somalia and Turkey Boost Humanitarian Cooperation Efforts

MOGADISHU, Somalia — In a step forward for disaster management and humanitarian aid, Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Commissioner, Mahamuud Moallim, chaired a significant meeting today aimed at deepening ties with Turkey’s International Humanitarian NGO (IHH).
The session, which took place at SoDMA headquarters, was attended by a delegation from IHH, led by the organization’s Deputy Chairman, Huseyin Oruc.

The meeting was a follow-up to prior discussions, focusing on strengthening cooperation, enhancing recovery strategies post-disasters, and bolstering resilience against future calamities. Participants engaged in detailed talks on potential joint projects, capacity building, and sharing best practices in disaster management.

“This partnership is crucial for Somalia,” said Commissioner Moallim. “It’s not just about immediate relief; it’s about building a resilient Somalia that can withstand the frequent challenges posed by natural disasters and conflicts.”

Deputy Chairman Oruc emphasized IHH’s commitment to supporting Somalia, stating, “Our goal is to help Somalia not only recover but thrive. Through this collaboration, we aim to implement sustainable solutions that will empower local communities.”

The discussions covered a range of topics including water management, food security, medical aid, and infrastructure development, all tailored to improve Somalia’s response to future crises.

Both parties expressed optimism about the outcomes, with an agreement to convene on specific project proposals in the coming months, marking a promising development in Somalia’s humanitarian aid landscape.
