MOGADISHU, Somalia — Somali Minister of Interior Ali Yusuf Ali-Hoosh met with a Finnish delegation on Thursday to discuss the nation’s military operations against al-Shabab and efforts to stabilize the country, the Ministry of Interior announced.
The Finnish group, headed by Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola, comprised senior officials from Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting underscored Finland’s commitment to aiding Somalia in its security and development endeavors.
“Our partnership with Finland is vital as we tackle the numerous challenges confronting our nation,” Minister Hoosh stated, appreciating the support from Finland. “Through cooperation, we aim for a stable and thriving Somalia.”
Ambassador Tapiola praised the Somali government’s commitment to combating terrorism and reiterated Finland’s dedication to supporting Somalia’s peace initiatives. “Finland is committed to aiding Somalia in its path to peace and growth. We will continue to support in any way we can,” he remarked.
Discussions included potential Finnish assistance in electoral processes, counterterrorism strategies, and regional stability. Finnish representatives showed enthusiasm for broadening their aid, particularly as Somalia ramps up its offensive against the militant group al-Shabab.
