MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Committee on Internal Affairs, Regional Governments and Security of the Parliament convened an extensive meeting on Saturday to tackle crucial security issues with the Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, who was accompanied by Yusuf Ali, the Director General of the Ministry of Internal Security. This gathering underscored the government’s commitment to addressing security challenges within Somalia.
Held in Mogadishu, the session was chaired by acting chairman Nur Ahmed Diriye (Nur Afey) and deputy chairman Mohamed Ibrahim Hassan (Diyesh), with the goal of promoting a more cohesive strategy among various security agencies to protect the nation from threats both domestic and foreign.
Minister Fartaag presented an in-depth report on the current security situation, with a special focus on combating Al-Shabaab. He discussed existing security protocols and potential improvements, such as better intelligence coordination, training for security personnel, and community involvement to prevent radicalization.
The dialogue revolved around key objectives like enhancing inter-agency cooperation, developing a comprehensive long-term security strategy, implementing targeted counter-terrorism measures, and fostering community policing to strengthen ties between security forces and civilians.
Committee members engaged actively, offering insights and advocating for transparency and accountability in security operations to maintain public confidence.
The meeting ended with a consensus to continue these discussions in upcoming sessions to further refine security strategies. Both the committee and the Minister’s office committed to ongoing collaboration to drive Somalia towards greater security and stability, with plans for regular updates to adapt to the dynamic security context.
