MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia issued a weekly report which highlights the latest developments in the country and beyond. Read it below.
1-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has flown to Arusha, Tanzania to attend the EAC Summit.
2-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang You, and discussed the ties and cooperation between the two countries.
3-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met Republic of Algeria Ambassador to Ethiopia and to the African Union Amb. Selma Malika Haddadi.
4-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended a prayer and commemoration meeting held in Mogadishu for the former President of Somaliland Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud (Silanyo) who died recently in Hargeisa.
5-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited some of the business markets in Mogadishu, observing the security conditions and the economic growth of the country.
6-The Cabinet has condemned and rejected the illegal state election conducted in Kismayo by the former leader of Jubbaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe).
7-The Cabinet has approved the appointment of the members of the Independent Committee for Elections and Borders.
8-Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre condoled the death of the veteran journalist Abdirisaq Haji Mohamed Sirad who worked for BBC for decades.
9-The 2nd Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali opened the Somalia Modern Health Conference 2024 in Mogadishu.
10-The Federal Parliament of Somalia approved the National Elections Act.
11-The Federal Parliament of Somalia has approved the appointment of members of the Independent Committee for Elections and Borders.
12-The House of Representatives approved the Higher Education Bill in the country.
13-The 1st Deputy Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mrs. Saadiya Yassin inaugurated the commemoration of the 16 days of the campaign against violence against women and girls.
14-The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned the attack that took place at the Agan Hotel in Kismayo by forces under the command of the Jubbaland administration.
15-The International Monetary Fund and the World Bank have announced that Somalia has been forgiven a debt of 4.5 billion US dollars.
16-The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Maallim Fiqi has officially signed the agreement by which the government of Somalia joins the United Nations against International Organized Crime (UNTOC).
17-The Banadir Regional Court has issued an arrest warrant for the former leader of the Jubbaland administration, accused Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe).
18-The Minister of Internal Affairs Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali (Xoosh) had a meeting with the Somali traditional elders in Mogadishu.
19-The National Security Office held the National Conference on the management of weapons and ammunition in Mogadishu, which is part of the pillars of the National Strategy on the management of weapons and ammunition.
20-The Minister of Defense Mr. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur met with the Vice President of Turkey Mr. Cevdet Yılmaz in Ankara.
21-The Minister of State for Education, Mrs. Noura Mustaf Mukhtar, together with the President of the Somali Ummah University, Hassan Osman Gal, and the Ambassador of the Chinese government to Somalia, Mr. Wang Yu, jointly launched the scholarship program for the friendship between Somalia and China.
22-The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Hamsa Hadow received Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi, Ambassador of Algeria to the African Union and Ethiopia.
23-The Ministry of Information of Somalia has condoled the death of journalist Abdirisaq Haji Mohamed Sirad who passed away in Hargeisa.
24-The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Macallim Fiqi, has officially reopened the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has been closed for more than 30 years.
25-About 80 soldiers from the Jubbaland Army have joined the operations of the armed forces in the area of Ras Kambooni in the Lower Jubba region.
26-The Minister of State for Health, Drs. Maryan Mohamed Hussein, inspected the Mother and Child Hospital in Banadir where a free eye examination project is underway.
27-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a prayer meeting for the late Ambassador Yusuf Hassan Ibrahim (Yusuf Dheeg), who was the former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
28-The Somali Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Ilyas Ali Hassan, has submitted his diplomatic credentials to the President of the Republic of Tanzania, Mrs. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
29-The Chairman of the Supreme Court Mr. Bashe Yusuf Ahmed and the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Wang Yu held a meeting in Mogadishu, discussing the cooperation between the two countries.
30-Residents in Mogadishu have held a demonstration in support of the universal suffrage vote in the country.
