BELGRADE, Serbia — Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, visited the Vlatacom Institute for the Study of Global Security, Economic Policy and Technology here on Saturday, aiming to enhance bilateral cooperation in security and technology.
During his tour, Minister Fartaag was briefed by Dr. Vladimir Cizelj, the institute’s director, on a range of activities that Vlatacom engages in, from cybersecurity solutions to economic policy research. Cizelj detailed the institute’s global outreach, noting partnerships with over 96 countries, which underscores Vlatacom’s international standing in security research and development.
The visit emphasized potential synergies between the institute’s offerings and Somalia’s developmental objectives, particularly in areas like biometric security solutions, electronic document issuance, and secure communication technologies.
Discussions focused on how Vlatacom could assist Somalia in enhancing its national security infrastructure, with future collaborations to be tailored according to specific Somali governmental needs and the institute’s specialized expertise.
Fartaag acknowledged the significant role played by the Serbian government in facilitating this engagement, thanking the leaders he met in Belgrade for their hospitality and support. He stressed the importance of such international partnerships in fostering peace, stability, and technological advancement in Somalia.
This visit marks another step in strengthening the diplomatic and cooperative ties between Somalia and Serbia, with an eye toward practical outcomes that could benefit Somalia’s ongoing state-building efforts.
