Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Begins Regional Diplomatic Tour

Mogadishu, Somalia — January 11, 2025 — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia departed today for Uganda to participate in the Continental African Agriculture Development Bank (CAADB) Summit.

 

This forum brings together African leaders to address the continent’s agricultural financing and development, reinforcing the vital role of agriculture in driving economic growth and food security.

In addition to his engagement at the summit, President Mohamud will hold high-level bilateral meetings with His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and His Excellency President William Ruto of Kenya. These discussions will focus on issues of mutual interest, including regional stability, economic cooperation, and further deepening diplomatic and economic ties between Somalia and its neighbors.

Later today, the President will travel to Ethiopia at the invitation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The discussions with the Ethiopian leadership aim to strengthen bilateral relations and advance shared priorities. This visit builds on the recent agreement reached in Ankara, Turkey, underlining a new era of collaboration between Somalia and Ethiopia.

The President’s diplomatic engagements are part of a broader regional tour, which included recent productive visits to Eritrea and Djibouti. During these visits, President Mohamud reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with neighboring countries and advancing shared goals of peace, development, and stability in the Horn of Africa.
