GAROWE [SMN] – The Puntland administration has announced a new directive prohibiting the possession and transportation of illegal firearms within its territories, warning that anyone found violating the order will face legal consequences.

The directive, issued by the Puntland Ministry of Security, also mandates all foreigners—both those already residing in the region and new arrivals—to register with authorities immediately.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Security elaborated on the directive, stating that the measure is aimed at bolstering security and mitigating threats posed by Al-Shabaab and ISIS fighters, with whom Puntland forces are currently engaged in active combat in the Bari region.

This announcement follows a series of successful military operations conducted by Puntland forces in the Cal-Miskaad Mountains of the Bari region. The operations have dealt significant blows to ISIS fighters, including the capture of key bases and the elimination of high-ranking militants. Among those neutralized are foreign fighters who had traveled to Somalia to join ISIS ranks.

The Puntland administration emphasized its commitment to maintaining security and stability while reaffirming its determination to root out extremist elements threatening the region.

The directive aims to ensure stricter control over weapons and movement, further strengthening the government’s efforts to protect its citizens and safeguard their security.
