Somali and Azerbaijan Leaders Hold Talks in Baku to Strengthen Ties

Baku – Presidents of Azerbaijan and Somalia Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia met in Baku on February 12, issuing joint statements emphasizing their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across various sectors.

 

The discussions, which took place at Azerbaijan’s government headquarters, focused on key areas such as security, economic growth, energy, and trade development.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud highlighted the importance of the meeting in advancing Somalia’s ties with Azerbaijan, expressing the country’s interest in tapping into opportunities for development and investment provided by Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev underscored the significance of Somalia as a strategic partner in the Horn of Africa, stressing Azerbaijan’s readiness to assist Somalia in addressing its developmental needs while promoting regional integration and stability.

Both leaders also discussed security challenges, agreeing to collaborate on countering threats posed by terrorism and regional instability.

In closing, the two leaders pledged to further deepen bilateral ties and explore new avenues for multifaceted cooperation.
