IGAD Welcomes Strengthened Ethiopia-Somalia Ties After Abiy’s Visit to Mogadishu

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has praised the growing diplomatic ties between Ethiopia and Somalia, following a recent visit by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Mogadishu.

 

Prime Minister Abiy’s one-day working visit to Somalia on February 27, 2025, was marked by a reception from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The two leaders held discussions focused on strengthening regional cooperation, economic collaboration, and promoting lasting peace.

IGAD described the visit as a significant step toward enhancing infrastructural connectivity and stability in the Horn of Africa.

The meeting followed the signing of the Ankara Declaration in Turkey, further deepening the partnership between the two nations.

In a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), IGAD reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peaceful engagement and sustainable development in the region.
