MOGADISHU, Somalia – The United States has joined Somalia’s allies in condemning the March 18 attack on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s motorcade, which resulted in the deaths of several people, including journalists.
The U.S. State Department called the bombing a terrorist act aimed at derailing Somalia’s path to recovery and the liberation of areas under al-Shabaab control.
The U.S. extended condolences to the victims’ families and reiterated its full support for the Somali people in their fight against al-Shabaab and al-Qaeda in the Horn of Africa.
The U.S. government once again expressed its unwavering backing for the Somali government and its ongoing efforts to combat al-Shabaab.
The African Union, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the UK, and other countries also condemned the attack, which targeted President Mohamud as he was traveling to the front lines.
