UNITED NATIONS — Somalia and Algeria have requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the consequences of recent Israeli airstrikes in Syria.
According to diplomatic sources, the request followed consultations among Arab representatives based in New York.
The Security Council is expected to convene later today to address the escalating situation, amid growing concerns about regional instability.
In a joint statement, Algeria, Somalia, Sierra Leone, and Guyana reaffirmed their support for Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
They emphasized the need to avoid interference in Syria’s internal affairs and called for the immediate lifting of sanctions imposed on the country.
The nations expressed deep concern over Israel’s continued military strikes on Syrian territory, warning that such actions further deteriorate the fragile security situation in the region.
